COUPLE OF SPECIAL THINGS FOR A COUPLE OF SPECIAL FOLKS

Managed to get a bit of time for crafting this weekend - yay! So I made these for two very special people in my life.... can't tell you who cos I haven't posted them yet! But they're CD wallets and I made them using the Pink Petticoat Little Swirls set.

I cut the card 5.1 x 10.2 inches and printed the pattern straight onto the card (bit of a cheat but hey!) in Willow and Quartz. Inside, I printed the opposite pattern, wrapped up a 5 x 5 inch card in the same solid colour and stuck it inside. Cuttlebug snowflake, with the obligatory GlamourDust!, some crystals and lovely shiny ribbon for effect.

I hope they like them! TFL xxx

THE SLINGS AND ARROWS OF OUTRAGEOUS ...

...Nativity play! Lil G was already a bit fed up cos they were doing that "Mary and Joseph story AGAIN and we did that last year!!"
But it was fab. They all did so well and yes, there were tears.... from the parents!

There's a DVD of it coming our way, too.... Worryingly with "bonus footage"!! Not sure I want to know! Lil G was "Star #1". There was lots of singing, including a fabulous rendition of "While Shepherds Washed Their Socks By Night" (yes, really!) and some funky dancing by the shepherds, too.

Well, that's that one out the way for another year - yay! xxx

NO TIME FOR ANYTHING... BUT HERE ARE SOME CARDS!

Hi all. Done all your shopping? I have - I know! Cheated, though. None of us wants anything ('cept me, lots of craft stuff LOL!) so we've all bought each other gifts from World Vision. I've bought my friends a goat and a set of fruit trees. Confused? Well it's all from WV's MustHaveGifts. You buy them for people in Africa, etc. The goat, for example, will be used to provide milk for a family and then bred to enable the kids to go to another family... and so on. Great idea, innit?? Got school dinners for a whole year for 3 children in Africa for my other friends. Brilliant!!
Anyway, here are a few cards I've made recently:

Just got no time for anything much at the moment. Given up on the whole village shop idea cos I got offered a full-time job - what do you do, gotta pay for the craft stash somehow, eh? And I just couldn't turn down good money in the current climate. Fed up with no time to craft, though. Hope you're all well. Hugs xxx

AND MY ADVENT CALENDAR FOR LIL G

Nowhere near as exciting as hers, but I used bigger matchboxes so it holds more interesting treats! She loves it, luckily!!

LIL G'S ADVENT CALENDAR

So what can you do with a small child when it's sleeting outside and she's got a cold? You get 24 matchboxes and make an advent calendar, that's what!

She and Daddy raided my craft stash (I know - I've come out in a rash already!!) and stuck and glued and glittered and cut and stamped all afternoon. I think it's fab and I'm very proud of her - poor Fidgit is a bit red/green/sparkly as she tried to help, too!

ANOTHER LITTLE PEEK - SORRY!!

Just had to share this little bit with you cos I LOVE the image of the tall ship. Wanna know why? Cos my Mummy painted it!!!

She's flippin' clever, isn't she? I scanned it and made it sepia-coloured and I love the overall effect. Hope she's happy with what I've done to her masterpiece!!

AND A BIT MORE...

You gotta love Poppicrafts embellies and GlamourDust, haven't you? xxx

28 November 2008

MORE TEASERS....

... I promise I will share the whole pictures as soon as I can!!
They are more of the stuff for the Poppicrafts DT and Michelle has to see them before you do! But if you nip over there now you'll find that she has some bargains for today only!!! I know I'm biased but it really is a great place for embellies!
Don't take my word for it..... go see. xxxx

LONG OVERDUE THANKS AND ANOTHER AWARD!

Well, what a week it has been! More about that later when the ground stops spinning. For now, I need to say a HUGE thank you to Kirsten for passing on the Proximity award - so kind of you and I'm really touched that you thought of me xxxx
Also, a long overdue thank you to Vikki for passing me this award:

How spoilt am I? Thank you so much, Vikki. If you are not familiar with either Kirsten or Vikki's work - where you been??? Go see what they do cos they are both very talented crafters.
I have to pass this onto 5 other creative bloggers.... I think all the ones I want to nominate already have it but I'll hunt around and get back to you.
It's so cold here at the moment! I've had a shocking week, but at least it's Friday and I can chill (pardon the pun!) for a bit. Andy suggested nipping out Christmas shopping this weekend - he's now tied up under the stairs for being stupid - but I think I'll just open a bottle of Baileys and eat chocolate under a warm fleece and a hot water bottle. Am I the only one who thinks hibernation is a fabulous idea???? xxxx

23 November 2008

LOVE IS....

... heart-shaped chocolate sprinkles! On this very VERY chilly Sunday morning, Andy made bacon butties and cappucino for breakfast. Not sure what he's after or what he's done, but mine looked like this...
.. Happy Sunday to you all xxx

A VERY NICE AWARD...

I've seen this one about and really love the sentiment behind it:

"This blog invests and believes the PROXIMITY - nearness in space, time and relationships! These blogs are exceedingly charming. These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in prizes or self-aggrandizement. Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated. Please give more attention to these writers!"

I then have to "deliver this award to eight bloggers who must choose eight more and include this cleverly-written text into the body of their award."

I was passed this by the very talented Helen and I'm very touched to get it, thank you. I will pass this on to some folks who I've met through this wonderful place called Blogland and who at some point have shared more than just crafting tips with me - thank you all xxx - and I hope I can call you all friends.
There are probably a dozen more but I'm only allowed to pick eight :(
Here they are:
Enjoy, ladies xx

ANOTHER LITTLE TEASER...

A very tiny little peek at something I've been working on for Poppicrafts. The gold North Star and the poinsettias are from there - go see what else there is for Christmas!

I INTERRUPT THE CRAFTING TO ISSUE THIS WARNING: THE FOLLOWING POST MAY CAUSE INVOLUNTARY NOISES SUCH AS 'AAAHH...'

I know!!
My mate Sarah (blogless!) just directed me to a site called CUTEOVERLOAD. If you don't know it, go see it from here. These are just a few of the cutest little diddlywiddly things I found.

Bless....

17 November 2008

PHEW!

It seems like I just don't get time to craft much anymore.
But I've taken a quick break for lunch (yeah, at the laptop!!) and thought I would upload a little something I managed to make over the weekend.
It's for my cousin's birthday, so it's quite girly. I found the pearly lace at my local haberdasher's (don't you just LOVE that word - and doesn't it remind of Grace Bros LOL!! Showing my age!) and it's a lot cheaper than craft shops. No idea where the papers are from but the stamp is my trusty cake one, cos I've misplaced my 'Happy Birthday' stamp - think I have a rough idea who nicked it, though.... small, cute and very pretty... yep, the dog. Or Lil G.

Now for the near-miss...
We very nearly ended up in a large ditch upside down in the car yesterday, me and Lil G.
"Oh no, Debs!! What happened?" I hear you cry!
Lil G happened, that's what.
She's always singing. All day. Even at school. Not even a song you know, but one she's made up, usually. And to any old tune she fancies.
But yesterday, I picked her up from school and headed out of the village back to our house. As we drove, we saw a large cock pheasant wandering along the grass verge. And she started:
"Oh there's a pretty coloured pheasant walking in the grass,
He sticks his head down for a drink, then sticks it up -"
... at which point I collapsed in hysterics. My brain was racing - she can't possibly be going to say what I think she's going to say!!! Can she? Surely not!!!!
.." - and down again for another drink and watches us drive past."
I had tears streaming down my face but was trying so hard not to let her see or I'd have had to explain what was funny!!! I nearly put us in the ditch at the next bend!
Were you thinking what I was thinking???

LIL G'S CHRISTMAS WISH - YOU GOTTA LARF....

I know it's only November, but she's 5, what do you expect?
She told Daddy last night that:
"What I want for Christmas, no, NEED, for Christmas are three things. I need a thing to scratch my back, a thing to remind me to take my glasses home and a thing to tidy my bedroom for me. And if you can't find any of those things, you'll have to INVENT them, or I'll be really, really, really CROSS!!".
Right then.
I see.
Ideas on a postcard, please!!

SOMETHING SPECIAL...

I made this card for my Mum's best friend's birthday. The backing paper is Shabby Princess, the pearls are from my trusty stash, the flowers are Prima... so what's special about that? Well the image in the middle was painted by my Mum. I love it and I hope I've done it justice. TFL xx

AND ANOTHER ONE!

More papers from Christine Renee Designs, ribbon/flower/button from Poppicrafts, stamp is the same freebie I used last time, sparkles/pearls from my stash of bling.
Made this for a friend's birthday - these are her favourite colours. Hope she likes it! xx

2 November 2008

AT LAST! I MADE A CARD!!

Seems like ages since I had time to make something that I could show you...!! This is for my sister-in-law's birthday. The papers are from a fantastic US site called Christina Renee Designs, the lace is from our local haberdashery, the stamp was a freebie with a craft mag and the pearls are from my luvverly stash of sparkly stuff! The wording is a rub-on and there is GlamourDust on the cake and candle.

Oh, apologies for the crummy photo - the light in my craft room (aka the pantry!) is not great and I just couldn't wait for daylight!!LOL!

You can also get the black blooms and the clips, there, too - get your credit card out and treat yourself!! You NEED this stuff......

I've been given the Wylde Women award by a new friend, Lesley, over at Pinkles Dreams (her stuff is F A B!!), so thank you, Lesley.

I've been given the LOVE YOUR BLOG award by my mate Vikki over at Vixx-a-Craftin' (go and say hi to the newest member of her family, what a cutiepie!). Thank you very much, Vikki!! xxxx
I'm very nearly at the end of this silly assignment (only 3 more weeks to go!) and then I'll be back to CraftandBlogLand!! Can't wait. Really not enjoying this job at all, not least because it keeps me from my passions in life!!
I'm just about to upload some sneaky peeks at my stuff for Poppicrafts!

I MUST BE A VERY BAD PERSON....

Just had to share this little gem from Lil G last night... still laughing this morning, and it's really NOT funny at all....

She stood at the door, all serious and sad-looking and announced in her 'important' voice that:

"Oh, Mummy. Charlotte is very upset cos her Daddy is getting dwarves".

I howled with laughter.

Lil G: "It's not funny, Mummy. It's very sad."

Me: "No, it's hilarious. What's he going to do with dwarves?"

Lil G: "I dunno, maybe get 7 beds?"

Me: ROFL

Lil G: "No, Mummy. It's very sad! Stop laughing!"

Me: ROFL even more. In tears now.

Lil G: "I meant to say that Charlotte's Daddy is getting DIVORCED!"

Me: Reaching for oxygen.

So not funny, but I am a bad bad person.

Sorry.xxx

ABOUT TIME FOR ANOTHER CARD, METHINKS...

.. but not sure this should be it. Made this for my cousin's wedding and it's picking up their colour scheme. Hope they like it! xx

7 October 2008

I AM BUZZING!!!! LOTS AND LOTS OF GOOD NEWS!!

And doesn't that make a change, eh?

Oh, where to start?? Well, my beautiful baby girl started at her new school yesterday and is like a totally different child. She has been so miserable at the old one and I feel a bit guilty that I didn't do this before the summer... but she's there now and it's a gem of a school with happy kids, happy parents and happy teachers - what a difference!! I've got my smiley girlie back - yay!!

Even 'yay-er' than that, there is good news from the hospital on Barbara's husband (see below) which is fantastic. They say the outlook is now good and he's making progress. Hugs to you all xxx

But even 'yay-er-er' is a little bit of news I'm bursting to share - I've been asked to join the Design Team for Poppicrafts!!!!!!! How chuffed am I? Can't even begin to tell you what a boost to my confidence that is!! (Although looking at the work of my fellow DT members, I'm a little worried, to be honest; they are SOOO talented!).

So a 'good news' day, which I love!! Hugs xxxxxx

4 October 2008

GOOD NEWS!!

Been in close touch with Hunnybunny since her hubby's dreadful accident and am happy to share the following with you today:

Hi all, really pleased to tell you that Don is waking up very slowly and he is responding to voices, particularly mine, I ask him questions and he either nods or shakes his head. He is such a fighter, I asked him to give me a smile and he did! Even the nurses were in tears! He is very agitated though, which is normal as they don't know where they are or what has happened to them, but he responds really well to my voice so I just keep talking to him. Its going to be a long and slow process, but he is a very strong man and he is really fighting, in fact he has 'boxing gloves' on to stop him pulling his tubes out and he hates them, he tries his best to get them off! Today I got the message that the Liverpool footy team are signing a shirt for him, they have heard about him and his accident, he will be made up, he has been a Liverpool fan for years but this was his first live attendance (and last!!) The police rang me today to update me about the investigation and everything is coming together now, the witness statements etc and they have CCTV footage, they have been very supportive and can't do enough for us. Can't believe a week has passed, its like being in a time warp, our lives have been turned completely upside down but its amazing the progress that Don has made in that short time. Keep your thoughts and prayers going, cos they sure are working! Love Barbara and Family xxxx

Fab stuff, eh?

xxx

1 October 2008

***UPDATE***WANT THE GOOD NEWS OR THE BAD NEWS?

The good news is the nose is healing well and, despite being broken, it's not bent. And she starts at her new school soon, so that's more good stuff. Oh, and the bucket's gone, too. More by accident than design, I confess - head, table, wedged, bust, oops - but she's healed up well, too. She had another jab tonight which might make her depressed again (what a riot) but she's on the mend as well.

Bad news. Oh, very bad news indeed and I ask you all to spare a good wish or a prayer to whomever you pray for my good friend Barbara (our very talented HunnyBunny) and her family. Her husband, Don, was knocked down on Saturday night by a women doing more than 60 in a 30 zone. He's in a critical condition and the prognosis is not good. So please, if you can, send positive thoughts their way - they need all the help they can get right now.

xxx

*****UPDATE** Heard from Barbara and her husband has made some progress overnight - they now say it's looking good - YAY!!!! Keep those good wishes coming, folks!! xx

28 September 2008

NOT HAPPY.....

Look at this.
Have you ever seen anything more sorry for itself??? Bless her. It's driving her barmy and she's got to keep it on for at least another week.
Should have got one of these collars for Lil G, to stop her picking at the scab on the end of her nose. Luckily, it doesn't look like her nose will be bent when it's fixed. It's just a bit 'bulbous' at the moment, but it's getting back to normal.
Thank you all for you good wishes xxxx

26 September 2008

WELL, IT'S TAKEN NEARLY THREE DAYS.....AND AN UPDATE!

... actually, it took about 3 evenings cos I don't get time to craft during the day any more :( But I wanted to make something pretty for very special lady who has been a close friend for many years. We met through work about 10 years ago and have stayed firm friends since. Her husband has Parkinsons and it's affecting both of them a great deal. So I chose this for her birthday. Hope she likes it .

Anyway, how are you all doing? I've not really had the time to keep up with all my bloggy friends and I miss you all. Still, it's only for another 8 weeks and then I can craft again!!! Yippeeee! Actually got around to opening my Glitter Pot order last night (had it a week! How bad is that??) and found lots of lovely things to play with.....
Lil G's nose is just a bit scabby and red now, not the charming black and blue of earlier in the week. Fidgit still has her bucket on but has now discovered that, if she angles it just right, she can use the edge of it to worry at the scab!! She hasn't yet worked out how to get through the doors without dinking it off the door frame... bless!! She's back at the vet's tomorrow for a check up. All go, innit?

So want to say a big thanks to everyone who left lovely messages about my pants day!

TFL xxx

23 September 2008

WHAT A PANTS DAY!!

Bad enough having to get up and go to work every day and not have time for crafting, but today, I worked from home. Or tried to. So much for modern technology. Our very lovely techies had omitted to actually switch on the link so that I could access the work stuff, so spent two hours sorting that out... then couldn't save anything I did, so lost it all... TWICE. Then Lil G came home all battered and bruised. Fell over her own feet and landed on her face.... broke her nose.
And to top if off, Fidgit had been bitten by something a couple of days ago and today it went septic... off to the vet, knocked out, clipped, sorted, woken up, bucket on head for a week, medicine, £90 later......

Off to bed now. Probably fall out of that, too..... x

19 September 2008

AN AWARD!! AND A TAG.....

Really excited cos I've got another award!!

And I'm really really chuffed because I was passed this one by two very special people. First of all, thank you to Julie for passing this on to me. I have been a huge fan of her work for a very long time and have always taken inspiration from her blog and her gallery on DC. She has a style and an eye for colour that I've not seen much anywhere else and to get this from her is a real treat.

Secondly, I was passed this from a new friend, Elaine; thank you very much! I have only just 'met' her and her blog is incredible. She uses bold colours and has a unique style that creates such fresh cards.

Very touched to get this from two such talented people. I have to pass this along now - this is always the hard part cos 1) there are so many people whose work I admire and 2) most of them already seem to have it!!! But I'll have a look around and get back to you on this one!

AND I've been tagged!! The very talented Sharon has passed this to me - thank you very much!
Here are the rules of the tag:

Here are the rules:1. Link your tagger and list the rules on your blog 2. Share 7 facts about yourself on your blog some random, some weird. 3. Tag 7 people at the end of your post by leaving their names as well as links to their blogs 4. Let them know that they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

So here goes:

1. I am bilingual French/English.
2. I hate liars and selfish people.
3. I am allergic to all animals (and sometimes to Lil G!).
4. I am a member of the Toon Army.
5. I make a funny face every time I see a baby animal (according to hubby) and I prefer animals to people.
6. I am fundamentally lazy but I hate lazy people.
7. I believe that Jeremy Clarkson should be PM, with Sir Trevor McDonald as Deputy PM, and they should ban spiders and sweetcorn, but make chocolate compulsory for all women.

You still there? Oh, good. I have to pass this on, too, so I'll pass it to my good friends, Vicky, Tracey, Sue Lesley, Dawny P, Barbara, MacPurp and Natalie (sorry, girls!) xxxxx

NOT SURE I LIKE THIS GOING TO WORK THING...

Getting up in the dark and not getting home again till after dark is not my idea of fun. Really grateful to have the contract, but it's flippin hard work!! Still, it'll be worth it in the end.

But it's made me a bit of a bad blogger, I'm afraid. Not even LOOKED at my craft stuff this week at all - what's that about??? And all my new stuff from Glitterpot turned up while I was out - not even opened it!!!! *faints*

Still, I hope to be back with the land of the living in a few days, when I get to work from home a bit and don't have to get up in the dark!! Hugs to you all xxxx

MAKE YOUR OWN FLOWERS!!

Here's another brilliant tutorial on how to make your own Prima-style flowers. It's so easy! Off to have a play... go look at this!! x

14 September 2008

MAGIC SLIDER CARDS...

Well, since the fairies have moved in (see below) I thought I might try to make one of these magic cards. So found this on Sharon's blog and off for a play.... I may be gone sometime.... xx

13 September 2008

PHEW! THAT WAS HARD WORK....

Got asked to make the Christmas cards from my friend's motorbike shop to all their customers. It needed to be humerous and different, yet still advertise the shop (and it's affiliation to a particular manufacturer).

So I made this.

I made the 'wrapping paper', decoup'd it, watercoloured my image, stuck the whole lot together, added the words, scanned it all and now I'm going to print out millions of them ....!! Okay, maybe not millions, but a fair few.

The owner is thrilled, which makes me happy cos it took me ages to do the image, colour it, create the paper, cut it out.. blah blah... but it was good fun to make. And no other bike shop will have the same one going out this year!!

Bit miffed though, cos it's the first day of decent weather in over a week and I'm inside crafting!! Still... mustn't grumble, eh? TFL xxx

12 September 2008

LET THE LITTLE FOLK IN...

Read an article in a craft magazine about fairy doors.... yep. Apparently in Ann Arbor in the States, they are quite common and have come about due to the urbanisation forcing the fairies to venture into homes and offices. How splendid is that?

Lil G was quite excited by this and a bit upset when I told her that the only fairies we seem to get here are garden ones.... (I know, but she's 5!). Not happy with that.

So when she gets home from school tonight (she has a dinner date with her boyfriend, Toby, first) (yes, I know..) she'll find that the little folks have moved in.

It's only made from a bit of cardboard, painted and bits added, but I think she'll like it. xx

10 September 2008

I LOVE OUR POSTIE!!!

... and I don't say that very often cos he's a bit of a one, most of the time. But today, he brought lots of luvverly pressies!! Yay!!
I got this card from my very clever friend Hunnybunny. The colours are so pretty and the words are brilliant. And she's done the distressing nicely, it just all works so well and it's one of the nicest cards I've seen for ages. AND it was chock full of lovely stamped images for me to play with!!!

Thank you, hunny!! xx

And the postie also brough me this. It's one of the those books of photos that you make yourself and add your own words.
It is, of course, a Little Book of Georgia. It's about 30 pages of photos of the little devil (we used to call her Little Noggin, but Andy has now renamed her 'Beelzenog') and it's fab. Been waiting all week for it and it's even better than I thought. She looks so cute - and they say the camera never lies!! Yeah, right.....
AND he brought me my latest CraftStamper magazine, too!! Don't know what to do first - aarrrggghhh!!!
Hope you're all having a fab day xx

5 September 2008

HOW TO LOOK GOOD DISTRESSED.....

Some of my lovely friends over at the Docrafts site have asked me how I get that 'distressed' look. I was actually quite offended until I realised they meant my cards......

So I thought I'd have a go at a bit of a tutorial:
You will need:

The thing to be distressed

Ink

Cotton buds

Cocktail stick

Scrap paper (or inking mat)

Sponge (TIP I used the foam that my brads came on)

1. Lightly dab the ink pad with the sponge. Using small circular movements, work from the scrap inwards to the card.

2. When it's done, turn it over and do the other side.

3. Carefully put tiny rips all around the edges.

4. Wet your finger and carefully roll the rips around a cocktail stick.

5. Dab the cotton bud into the ink and apply it all around the very edges, including the rips. I use a darker ink for this.

Done.

Apologies for the appalling layout - really struggling with this blog. xx

4 September 2008

NOT REALLY SURE...

... about this one, to be honest. It had to be A5 size and I don't do so well with the bigger cards. I prefer working with 5 x 5's. Anyway, it's for a lovely couple who have had the most horrendous year - he has been diagnosed with cancer and they lost their son just after New Year - and it's just to say that folks are thinking of them.

The music score is roughly stamped in green/gold (though you can't tell on the pic) and the letters are American Thickers. Oh, and I added some lovely new Prima flowers I got yesterday.

I can't decide if I like it, but the others do, so I'm outnumbered.

In other news, Lil G is back at school this week and is coming home completely wrecked and VERY stroppy! We appear to have aged 7 years in 2 days and are now acting like a teenager, slamming doors and yelling.... But this year, she's discovered that now she has to work ALL day and it's been a bit of shock to the system. I haven't had the heart to tell her that this is it now for the next 12 years!! xxx
